On Friday, the Margaret Chase Smith Community School staff and students participated in a ceremony honoring those who died on September 11, 2001, with the participation of the Skowhegan Fire Department.

The service, according to the department, was a poignant way for the school community to honor those who lost their lives on that day.

At the event, Deputy Chief Barton spoke on behalf of the Skowhegan Fire Department. The department expressed gratitude to the school for permitting its members to participate in the celebration. Margaret Chase Smith Community School is located at 40 Heselton Street in Skowhegan and serves students from prekindergarten through fifth grade. The gathering came as communities across the country marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, honoring the victims and the first responders who answered the call.
