Pomfret Fire Pays Tribute to Vietnam Veterans

September 9, 2026 — Pomfret, Connecticut: As the mobile Vietnam monument went through town on Wednesday, Pomfret Fire Department members participated in a local homage.

Members of the fire department went to the memorial to pay tribute to the veterans whose sacrifice and service it honors.

The visit coincided with the arrival in neighboring Putnam of The Wall That Heals, a traveling, three-quarter-scale copy of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. From September 10 to September 13, the memorial will be on display at Murphy Park. It is free to view and accessible around-the-clock. The traveling memorial bears the names of 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. The exhibit also includes a mobile Education Center with information about the war, the memorial and the people who served.
