Meriden Fire Local 1148 Marked Labor Day With Union Recognition

MERIDEN, CT — September 7 — Meriden Fire Local 1148 honored Labor Day by acknowledging the department's longstanding relationship with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the efforts of its members.The local noted that its members have been part of the IAFF for over 70 years.

The event highlighted important issues such as pay, benefits, job security, and better working conditions.

These concerns remained significant because staffing levels, training, equipment, and workplace safety all have a direct impact on the department's operations.

The City of Meriden officially recognized Meriden Fire Local 1148 as the bargaining representative for uniformed and investigatory positions within the fire department, with the exception of the chief engineer and deputy chief.

The labor agreement between the city and the union outlines the terms of employment for these positions.

The IAFF also emphasized collective bargaining, workplace safety, access to health resources, training programs, and retirement security as key areas of focus.
