Quakertown, NJ - Quakertown Fire Company (Station 91) members tackled a dual-threat training night designed to sharpen both their fireground muscle memory and sideline emergency readiness.
On the evening of August 24, a turnout of 33 firefighters and EMTs gathered in Hunterdon County for a high-energy, multi-discipline drill split between hose mechanics and sports medicine. The fire division focused on core engine company fundamentals, running intensive repetitions on rapidly pulling, advancing, and repacking attack handlines to maintain peak operational speed.
On the EMS side, responders shifted focus from structural emergencies to the gridiron. The medical team partnered with the Delaware Valley High School training staff and the St. Luke’s sports medicine crew—who will be staffing the sidelines throughout the football season—to review emergency protocols for severe, high-impact player injuries.
Responders worked directly with modern football equipment, practicing helmet-and-shoulder-pad removal techniques, cervical spine stabilization, and integrated sideline triage. The drill arrived at the perfect moment as Del Val gears up to host rival North Hunterdon, ensuring local emergency responders and athletic staff are in complete sync before the first kickoff.
