Westfield Fire Department Remembered Edward Dypa’s Long Service

MIDDLETOWN, CT — AUGUST 19 — The Westfield Fire Department honored Edward J.Dypa, a firefighter and former commissioner, who passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 93.
Dypa began his career with the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department in 1966 and dedicated over 60 years of service to the Westfield District.
He later held the position of commissioner and remained actively engaged with the department even after his time as a firefighter.
Dypa continued to participate in departmental events and social gatherings, including the Memorial Day ceremony.
His involvement highlighted the important role experienced members played in preserving the department’s history and supporting new firefighters.
Westfield Fire Department functioned as a combination department that served the Middletown’s Westfield District.
The department operated within a broader response network that included Middletown Fire, South Fire District, Portland Fire, and other nearby agencies.Mutual-aid companies provided assistance to Westfield during emergencies when additional staffing or equipment was required.
