EAST BROOKLYN, CT — September 5, 2026 — Leo Berube, a former deputy chief of the Mortlake Fire Department and retired chief of the Plainfield Fire Department, was said farewell by members of the East Brooklyn Fire Department along with other firemen and community residents.

According to the East Brooklyn Fire Department, Berube served the Plainfield and Brooklyn areas for more than 40 years.

Throughout his career, Berube held the positions of Deputy Chief of the Mortlake Fire Department and Fire Chief of the Plainfield Fire Department. During his tenure, he also interacted with East Brooklyn Fire Department personnel, some of whom had the chance to collaborate with him over the years. The East Brooklyn Fire Department said many of its members had the honor of serving alongside Berube in the area and recognized the lasting connection he built with local fire department members.

The department extended its condolences to Berube's family, friends and the fire department families who knew and worked with him.

His more than four decades of service represent a significant commitment to the fire service and the communities he served.
