ESSEX, CT — September 7 — Essex Fire Engine Co.#1 celebrated Labor Day by honoring the workers who contributed to the community and ensured essential services continued to run smoothly.The event recognized firefighters, emergency medical technicians, public safety officers, skilled tradespeople, healthcare professionals, public works staff, and others who kept their communities functioning during the holiday.

Labor Day is observed on the first Monday of September and was established to acknowledge the social and economic impact of American workers.

According to the U.S.Department of Labor, Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday in 1894, following its adoption by many states, including Connecticut.

For those in emergency services, the holiday also highlighted the work done on weekends and holidays when communities still needed fire, emergency medical, and public safety support.
