EAST HADDAM, CT — August 18 — Members of the East Haddam Fire Department carried out their second monthly training session in August at Company 2.The focus of the exercise was on hose line advancement and tanker shuttle operations.

The training was led by Captain Kyle Mosig, who demonstrated the setup and positioning of portable drop tanks, the use of Holley tubes, the placement of firefighting vehicles, and the deployment and movement of hose lines.

Firefighters then practiced the water supply process using the equipment shown during the drill.

Tanker shuttle operations gave firefighters hands-on experience in transporting water from a supply source to a fire scene when a municipal hydrant system was not available.

According to NFPA materials, portable tanks are used as temporary storage for water during large-scale operations, while tanker shuttles allow for a steady water supply by repeatedly filling, transporting, and discharging water.

This drill was part of the department’s ongoing training efforts and helped maintain the skills necessary for effective rural fireground water supply operations. The East Haddam Fire Department also emphasized that training and equipment are central to its mission of protecting lives and property.
