Amherst, NH - Amherst Fire and EMS officers recently took part in vendor training on a new air filling station, helping department personnel become familiar with the equipment that will support firefighters’ respiratory protection needs.

The new unit is replacing the department’s previous air filling station, which failed in December. The training provided officers with an opportunity to learn the operation and features of the replacement system and ensure they are prepared to use it effectively.

On August 20, Amherst Fire and EMS received the vendor training with assistance from Fire Chief (Retired) Brian Dubreuil and the New Boston Fire Department, who helped make the training opportunity possible.

Air filling stations are an important resource for fire departments, allowing crews to refill the compressed-air cylinders used with self-contained breathing apparatus during emergency operations and training. Reliable access to properly filled cylinders is essential when firefighters are working in smoke-filled or otherwise hazardous environments.

The department also highlighted the strong working relationships it maintains with neighboring and nearby fire departments. Collaboration and shared expertise between departments can provide valuable support, particularly when agencies are bringing new equipment into service.
