Greenfield, MA _ The Greenfield Fire Department conducted a dedicated ladder training evolution in Greenfield, Franklin County, focusing on the safe operation, capabilities, and deployment limits of its 107-foot aerial ladder.

The training was designed to reinforce that aerial operations extend well beyond basic structure fire positioning. Crews worked through multiple progressive scenarios emphasizing proper apparatus placement, stabilisation techniques, and coordinated communication between the operator and assigned members. Emphasis was placed on reading the incident environment, selecting safe positioning points, and maintaining clear command-level cordination while operating the aerial in varied conditions.

On 21 August, members also practiced elevated rescue considerations, simulating situations where rapid aerial deployment would be critical for removing occupants from upper floors or providing access support during technical rescue operations. Crews focused on speed of deployment balanced with safety, ensuring that risk asessment and decision-making remained central to every evolution.

Throughout the drill, personnel rotated through practical hands-on stations to reinforce familiarity with the aerial’s capabilities and limitations. The session strengthened teamwork, operational discipline, and confidence in equipment use, ensuring members remain fully prepared for real-world incidents where precise aerial operations can significantly impact outcomes.
