LARCHMONT, NY — August 18 — Members of the Mamaroneck Fire Department, based at 205 Weaver Street in Parchment, relocated their monthly training session off-site on Tuesday evening to focus on hose line and pumping techniques.

The training covered several essential foreground skills, such as positioning the hose line, stretching techniques, and operating the pumping equipment.

The exercise involved a step-by-step progression to ensure that crews understand the proper procedures for setting up an effective attack line and maintaining a reliable water supply.

For engine teams, these skills require consistent practice.

Pump operators need to be familiar with the controls of the equipment, the water supply, and the pressure at which water is discharged, while also coordinating with teams that are managing the hose lines. Firefighters handling the hose lines must also take into account the layout of the building, where to place the hose, and the position of the attack crew.

The Mamaroneck Fire Department stated that its personnel engage in training on various subjects throughout the year, including strategies for fire attack, vehicle extrication, handling hazardous materials, confined-space rescue, and water and ice rescue.

The department currently consists of about 70 volunteer firefighters, 14 career firefighters, and a junior firefighter program.

Its equipment includes three engine units, an aerial ladder truck, a rescue vehicle, and a marine unit.

The August 18 drill offered another chance for members to practice hose and pumping operations in a controlled environment, preparing them for the need to use these skills during real emergencies.
