VALHALLA, NY — August 12 — Students from Assigning's My Brother’s Keeper program had a hands-on experience with emergency services during a career exposure day at the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services, located at 4 Dana Road in Valhalla.

Staff from the Department of Emergency Services, including members from Fire, EMS, Communications, and Special Operations, conducted activities that gave the students an introduction to the equipment, training, and teamwork necessary for emergency response.

The students were also given the chance to interact with emergency equipment and learn about the various career paths available in the public safety field.

Representatives from the FD NY, Mount Vernon Fire Department, and technical rescue units also took part in the event, offering additional insights into emergency service work and the training required for specialized roles.

A preparedness session was held, focusing on Emergencynd the essential supplies that residents should have on hand in case of an evacuation or other emergency situation.

The event also aligned with the goals of Assigning's My Brother’s Keeper program.

The Ossining Union Free School District explained that its MBK initiative aims to improve access to opportunities, provide mentorship, and help young people prepare for college, careers, and the workforce.

For emergency service agencies, these career exposure programs offer a way to introduce young people to the fire service, EMS, communications, and technical rescue fields before they start formal training.

Westchester DES already runs its training center at the Valhalla facility, where emergency responders receive specialized instruction.
