LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — August 10, 2026 — On Monday, Lacey Township and Mayor Steve Kennis honored veteran fireman Charles V. "Popsie" Brocklebank Sr. with a proclamation and the opening of a new park pavilion in his honor, drawing members of the Forked River Fire Department to Hebrew Park.

Through the Forked River Volunteer Fire Company, Brocklebank had served the Lacey Township community for more than 50 years. He also worked for the Lacey Township Department of Public Works and served as a special police officer in his early years.

A career that went well beyond answering fire calls was honored by the township's commendation. In addition to his civic service, Brocklebank was well-known in the community for his work with the fire department.

The Forked River Fire Company is an all-volunteer organization. The township's official fire-company information notes that the company's gazebo and picnic area are dedicated to Firefighter Charles “Brocky” Brocklebank Jr., as well as Firefighter Evan Newman, reflecting the department's history of honoring members who served the community.

Brocklebank's own career included more than 50 years as a member of the Forked River Volunteer Fire Company. His later obituary described him as a life member of the department and noted his work with the Lacey Township Department of Public Works, where he served as a carpenter and heavy-equipment operator on municipal projects.

The August 10 ceremony took place at Hebrew Park, where the new pavilion was dedicated in his honor. The gathering brought department members and township officials together to recognize his long service to Lacey Township.
