Newton Firefighters Conducted Vehicle Extrication Training

Newton, N.J. — July 27 — On Monday nite, members of the Newton Volunteer Fire Department practiced car extrication. Firefighters trained using a number of standard rescue techniques to stabilize a car and provide access to occupants. Door pops, windshield removal, and cutting and removing the car roof were all part of the practice.


During the mock rescue, members also practiced coordination, vehicle stabilization, and tool use. There were no departments that were listed as taking part in the training that provided assistance or mutual aid. The Newton Volunteer Fire Department, located at 56 Woodside Ave., Newton, N.J. 07860, carried out the exercise.


Firefighters were able to stay proficient with extrication tools and techniques utilized in motor vehicle emergencies through regular practical training. Vehicle extrication and other specialized rescue operations were among the department's stated rescue capabilities.
