Gloucester City, N.J. — July 28 — The Gloucester City Fire Department honored Firefighter Anthony Bramble during a City Council meeting Tuesday as he prepares to retire after a 37-year career in the fire service.

Bramble is scheduled to wear his uniform for the final time Wednesday, July 29, ending a career that included 26 years with the Gloucester City Fire Department, according to the department.

Bramble began his fire service career in 1989 after completing fire school. He volunteered with the Tacoma Fire Company in Deptford and also served with the Almonesson Lake Fire Company before joining Gloucester City as a career firefighter in 2000 at age 35.

Bramble gained recognition in the service as a mentor and teacher to more junior firefighters while he was employed with Gloucester City. Throughout his tenure, the department acknowledged him for sharing his knowledge and assisting people in honing their talents.

Bramble's lengthy tenure with the department is further supported by city records that show him as a Gloucester City firefighter/EMT as early as 2016.

In addition to standard firefighting, Bramble's Gloucester City employment involved emergency response. He was one of five Gloucester City firefighters honored by the National Liberty Museum in 2024 with a Valor in Emergency Response – Team Effort Award for their efforts during a Delaware River water rescue.

The department said Bramble's final shift will mark the end of decades of service to the fire service and the Gloucester City community.

Members of the department congratulated Bramble on his retirement and thanked him for his years of service, professionalism and commitment to the firefighters he worked alongside.
