Malaga, N.J. — July 28 — Steve Murrow and Chris Fasano have joined the Malaga Volunteer Fire Company's Search and Rescue unit, where they will work as divers.
According to the Malaga Fire Company, Murrow and Fasano are both Gloucester County residents who recently joined the crew and will start continuing their training.
Specialized water rescue has a long tradition in Malaga. According to the company's history, it formed a dive team in 1983 in response to the demand for a specialized underwater search capacity following several drownings in the region. Chief John Borelli Jr. and five other people formed the initial team.
The company continues to maintain marine and rescue capabilities. Malaga's official incident records show that the company handled marine and rescue calls during 2026, including mutual-aid responses.
For Murrow and Fasano, joining the dive team adds another specialized responsibility within the volunteer fire service. The company said it looks forward to helping both members continue their training and develop their skills in public service.
The Malaga Volunteer Fire Company thanked the two new divers for choosing to join the Search and Rescue team and welcomed them to the organization.
