The Hillside Fire Department proudly congratulated Firefighter Gregory Donofrio (Line #142) as he retired after 25 years of dedicated service to the Township of Hillside and its residents.

Donofrio began his firefighting career on June 6, 2000, and over the years became known not only as a steady and dependable firefighter, but also as a mentor, teammate, and true friend. Colleagues described him as humble, respected, and a brother in every sense of the word, someone who led by example both in the firehouse and on the fireground.

His final assignment was as Motor Pump Operator (MPO)/chauffeur of Truck 1 at Station 1 on Tour #4, where his calm leadership and years of experience made a daily impact.

“Greg is one of those rare people who leaves a mark not just because of what he did, but because of who he is,” the department said in its statement. “We will miss his presence but remain grateful for the years, memories, and example he set for those who follow.”

The Hillside Fire Department extended heartfelt thanks to Firefighter Donofrio for 25 years of courage, dedication, and service, wishing him health and happiness in retirement.
