Holbrook, N.Y. — July 25 — Firefighters from the Holbrook Fire Department welcomed members of the Retiro Fire Department of Chile for an international exchange focused on firefighting practices and the differences and similarities between fire services.

The visit took place Saturday, July 25, according to the Holbrook Fire Department's July 26 report. Members of the Retiro department were visiting the United States to learn more about the U.S. fire service. Holbrook firefighters spent the morning explaining local fire tactics, exchanging ideas and discussing firefighting practices.

The session gave firefighters from the two countries an opportunity to compare their approaches to emergency response and learn from each other's experience. The Holbrook department described the meeting as an opportunity to broaden the members' understanding of firefighting as a worldwide profession.

Retiro is a municipality in Chile's Maule Region, while Holbrook is located in Suffolk County, New York. The departments operate in different fire-service systems, making the exchange an opportunity to discuss how firefighters in different countries prepare for and respond to emergencies.
