18 Calls Keep Center Moriches Crews Busy

Center Moriches, N.Y. — July 31 — Volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel spent a busy Friday responding to calls across Center Moriches and neighboring communities, including incidents on land, in Moriches Bay and along the Atlantic Ocean.
The Center Moriches Fire Department reported responding to 18 alarms between 8 a.m. and 11:58 p.m., according to the department's detailed list of calls. The day began with a motor vehicle accident on Wading River Road at 8:02 a.m., followed by an EMS call on the same road at 8:51 a.m.
At 9:48 a.m., Center Moriches firefighters provided mutual aid to the East Moriches Fire Department for a structure fire on Osborne Avenue. Later in the morning, Center Moriches EMS responded to a medical emergency aboard the fishing vessel Rosie in Moriches Bay.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, the department responded to EMS calls, a gas leak on Pine Hills Drive, and a carbon monoxide alarm on Main Street.
Crews were also kept moving by marine operations. Firefighters were called to a water rescue on the ocean side of Dune Road in Westhampton at 3:37 p.m. At 5:59 and 6:12 p.m., two more water rescue calls were made at Smith Point County Park. EMS responses on Clinton Street, Railroad Avenue, Cottontail Run, Inwood Road, Senix Avenue, Sunrise Highway's north service road, and Pine Hills Drive were among the remaining calls.
A water rescue fire boat and a surface rescue boat are among the fire, emergency medical services, and marine rescue resources that Center Moriches manages. The department's website lists 55 fire calls and 169 EMS calls for July 2026, for a combined 224 responses during the month.
