Washington Fire Marks 10 Years of Per Diem Program, Bids Farewell to Chris Smith

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

As AEMT Chris Smith is ready to leave the agency, the Washington Fire agency commemorated the tenth anniversary of its per diem program on July 25.

The program started off with four participants working 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekday shifts, but it has since grown to encompass 12-hour day and nite shifts. Smith was one of the two original participants who stayed with the program for the entire decade.

For ten years, Smith has provided EMS coverage to the Washington community and taken part in department fundraisers, community events, and fire prevention initiatives. The department wished Smith well in his next chapter and thanked him for his service.
