National Night Out Comes to Ridge

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Emergency-service agencies came together at Fireman’s Memorial Park in Ridge, New York, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, for the annual National Night Out, giving residents an up-close look at local fire, rescue and law-enforcement operations.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and Town of Brookhaven hosted the Ridge event, with participation from the Ridge Fire Department and Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services (FRES). Emergency vehicles and specialized equipment were displayed throughout the park as first responders met with residents.

Ridge firefighters provided some of the action during the evening with two live demonstrations. Members conducted an auto-extrication evolution, showing how crews access patients trapped following serious crashes, followed by a camper-fire demonstration, where firefighters stretched a handline and went to work on the simulated fire.

Law enforcement brought some friendly competition to the event as well. At 6 p.m., Suffolk County deputy sheriffs and correction officers squared off in a softball game.

The Ridge gathering was one of several National Night Out events held across Brookhaven that evening as part of the 42nd annual National Night Out.
