Webbs Mills Fire Department Enhances Rural Water Supply Skills Through Drafting Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Pine City, NY - Members of the Webbs Mills Fire Department conducted evening training focused on drafting operations using a dry hydrant system. The session provided hands-on experience in rural water supply techniques essential for areas without access to municipal hydrants.

During the exercise, crews practiced establishing a draft from a nearby water source through a dry hydrant, a system that remains non-pressurized and requires the engine to create a vacuum in order to draw water. This method is commonly utilized in rural response areas where alternative water supply is critical for sustained firefighting operations.

The training reinforced operational readiness and strengthened proficiency in rural water supply tactics, ensuring crews remain prepared for effective fire suppression in areas with limited infrastructure.
