Aurora, N.Y. — July 20 — Members of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department practiced high-angle rescue techniques with an emphasis on safety, anchor points, and fundamental rappelling techniques. Before participating in rappelling drills, firefighters reviewed safe procedures and practiced finding appropriate anchors. Members were able to gain experience with rope operations and moving in high places throughout the practical exercise.

The significance of appropriate setup and communication during specialized rescue missions was also emphasized throughout training. In a supervised training environment, members finished the rappelling section. The drill helped the agency continue to be ready for situations requiring steep terrain, high places, or challenging access. Regular departmental training allowed Aurora firefighters to continue honing their rescue techniques.
