Auburn, N.Y. — July 29 — Specialized training on geographic response plans for hazardous materials accidents involving the CSX Railroad mainline thru Montezuma, Mentz, and Brutus was provided by the Cayuga County HazMat Team. In the Owasco River, close to the Mill Street Dam, team members rehearsed the deployment of a containment boom. In addition to strengthening integrated protocols for safeguarding waterways and neighboring communities in the event of a possible hazardous materials leak, the exercise gave participants practical experience with equipment.

Under a contract with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Ramboll instructors conducted the training. The team's expertise with railroad-related response plans and tools utilized in hazardous materials accidents impacting transportation corridors was also improved by the exercise.
