On July 23, FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Daniel Flynn attended the unveiling of a commemorative street sign at 69th Lane and Eliot Avenue in Queens alongside department personnel, local officials, and Lieutenant Kenneth J. Phelan's family.

As the city gets ready to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, the new sign pays tribute to Phelan. New red and blue markers are replacing more than 300 co-named street signs remembering slain NYPD and FDNY officers.

To honor the names and legacies of first responders who have lost their lives, the signs will be erected in various locations around the five boros.
