Captain Edward Martin Retires After More Than 33 Years with FDNY

After more than three decades of service to New York City, FDNY Captain Edward Martin of Ladder Company 152 worked his final tour on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in New York City, closing out a career that included company operations, a civilian rescue and deployment to one of the nation's largest natural disasters.
Martin was appointed to the FDNY on October 25, 1992, beginning his career at Ladder Company 110 in Brooklyn. He rose through the ranks, earning promotion to lieutenant in 2004 and captain in 2021.
His career included a 1996 citation for bravery after rescuing a woman from a multiple-dwelling fire. Martin also deployed to New Orleans in 2005, assisting with rescue and recovery operations following Hurricane Katrina.
Reflecting on his career, Martin said that once he arrived at Ladder 110 as a probationary firefighter, he was “hooked to the greatest job in the world.” He credited both the work and the members he served alongside for making his career memorable, calling it a privilege to have served.
With his final tour complete, Martin leaves the firehouse after more than 33 years of service, carrying with him a career that stretched from the fire floors of New York City to disaster operations hundreds of miles from home.
