Quogue Firefighters Open Their Doors for Fire Prevention Day

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Quogue Fire Department in Quogue, New York, welcomed residents to its headquarters on Sunday, August 2, 2026, for the department's annual fire prevention open house, combining public education with a look at the equipment and skills used by local first responders.

Members placed the department's apparatus fleet on display while providing visitors an opportunity to meet the volunteers who respond throughout the community. The program included three live demonstrations highlighting different areas of fire and rescue operations.

A Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services accelerant-detection canine team demonstrated how specially trained dogs assist fire investigators, while Quogue members presented a barbecue-fire demonstration focused on a common summertime hazard. Firefighters also conducted an auto-extrication demonstration, giving visitors a closer look at the tools and techniques used to access patients following serious motor-vehicle crashes.

The open house is part of a longstanding community-outreach effort by the Quogue Fire Department. In addition to emergency response, the department provides fire-prevention education at Quogue Elementary School and to other community organizations.

For fire-service members, the event offered an opportunity to put apparatus, rescue skills and fire investigation resources in front of the public before they're needed on an actual alarm.
