On June 25, the Montgomery County Fire Academy graduated 38 students from the Pennsylvania Entry Level Firefighter Training Program, Fire Academy Class 2502, after the students passed their May 31 Burn Day, practical tests, and exams.
In what was an inspiring speech, Montgomery County Fire Academy Instructor Steve Dragon began his commencement speech by stating that he wanted to talk "about the two things we don't teach here: Commitment and Dedication." He touched on what it meant to him throughout his lifetime. Most importantly, he stressed to the graduates the necessity of growing in the fire service, to "make sure you have the love and understanding from your family", and to "never stop learning." He finished off with final thoughts, including "Be good, have fun, and learn a lot." This class exemplified that.
Three firefighters received the Academic Achievement Award: Firefighter Matthew Lebo from Wyndmoor Fire Co., Firefighter Brian Leno from Narberth Fire Co., and Firefighter John McGlynn Jr. from Edge Hill Fire Co.
Following the graduation ceremony, the graduates went on to protect their communities as firefighters in 23 volunteer and combination fire companies in Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties.
Graduates were from the following companies: Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2, Bryn Mawr Fire Company, George Clay Fire Company, Limerick Fire Department, Valley Forge Fire Department, Gladwyne Fire Company, Telford Fire Company, Lower Frederick Fire Company, Springfield Fire Company, Bridgeport Fire Department, Pottstown North End Fire Co. No. 1, Flourtown Fire Company, Wyndmoor Fire Company, Narberth Fire Company, Manoa Fire Company, Harmonville Fire Company, Edge Hill Fire Company, Lower Providence Fire Company, Oakmont Fire Company, Liberty Fire Company, Black Rock Fire Company, Swedesburg Fire Company, and Llanerch Fire Company.
