Members of the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department in Riverhead, New York, conducted hands-on vehicle-fire training on June 30, 2026, at the Northville Training Grounds, giving crews an opportunity to sharpen suppression and coordination skills in a controlled environment.
Firefighters worked through multiple simulated vehicle-fire scenarios, practicing hose-line advancement, fire attack and coordinated company operations. The drills were designed to reinforce teamwork, communication and safe positioning while giving members repeated opportunities to work around the hazards associated with burning vehicles.
For emergency-service personnel, vehicle fires present a mix of high heat, toxic smoke, flammable fluids and the possibility of unexpected component failure or explosions. Riverhead has previously used similar drills to reinforce safe approach, engine placement, forcible entry and accountability around vehicle fires.
