Tanker Operations Drill in Bethlehem

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Slingerlands FD hosted a tanker operations drill at the Bethlehem Fire Training Center on June 23rd with fire departments around the area. While the Town of Bethlehem has numerous fire hydrants, there are areas within the Slingerlands Fire District with limited hydrants or the increased chance of a water main break. Most recently, a water main break destroyed some of the front apron to the Slingerlands Firehouse. For the drill, an engine was set up with portable ponds for the tankers to dump their water. The tankers would fill the portable pond and the engine takes the water and supplies it to other apparatus, in this case, a ladder truck and a Blitzfire. The tankers would then fill back up at a hydrant and continue the cycle to supply the engine with water to feed the other lines in operation. Participating in the drill were the Slingerlands, Elsmere, Selkirk, North Bethlehem and New Salem Fire Departments.
