Nantucket Fire Department Conducts Joint Ocean Rescue Drill

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On July 1, the Nantucket Fire Department participated in a synchronized ocean rescue training exercise at Surfside Beach alongside Nantucket Harbormaster lifeguards.

The exercise mimicked a distressed swimmer who, after being saved by lifeguards, lost consciousness. Firefighters arrived after the rescue to help with patient evaluation, emergency medical care, and beach transportation.

According to department officials, the collaborative exercise improved patient handoffs, coordination, and communication between the two organizations, enhancing readiness for upcoming water rescue crises.
