In honor of America's 250th birthday, the West Forks Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department urged locals and guests to enjoy Independence Day in a safe manner.

The agency urged people to always wear life jackets when boating, never drive while intoxicated, leave fireworks to qualified professionals whenever possible, and keep water close by when using authorized explosives. Additionally, firefighters advised locals to dial 911 right away in case of an emergency.

Firefighters are prepared to respond throughout the holiday, according to department officials who praised the community for its ongoing support.
