Shift 4 Responds to Owl Rescue at City Landfill

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On June 29, members of Bath Fire & Rescue Department's Shift 4 helped save a great horned owl that had gotten stuck in a mesh fence at the City of Bath Landfill.

Workers at the landfill found the owl and called the fire department for help. After that, firefighters worked with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, whose wildlife biologist assisted in the bird's safe release.

The owl was removed from the fence and allowed time to heal before taking off without incident. The cooperation between local rescuers and wildlife officials was demonstrated by the successful rescue.
