Boston Firefighters Promote Barbecue Fire Safety

With more people cooking outside in the summer, the Boston Fire Department's Fire Prevention Education Unit advised locals to practice safe grilling.


The department advised grill users to never leave a grill unattended, keep children and pets away from cooking areas, use grills only outside, and keep propane and charcoal grills at least ten feet away from homes and other structures. In order to lower the risk of grease fires, firefighters also emphasized the significance of routinely cleaning grills.


In order to assist prevent grilling-related fires and accidents, the department encouraged locals to abide by local fire safety laws and take preventative measures.
