This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

New York — June 12 — As New York continues to struggle with a severe blood shortage, the FDNY and NYPD joined the New York Blood Center to start the annual Bravest vs. Finest Blood Donation Competition. In order to sustain the blood supply in the area throughout the hectic summer months, the campaign urges members of both organizations to give blood.

The lighthearted competition demonstrates first responders' dedication to helping the community outside of emergency situations. Donations made during the campaign, according to organizers, will support New Yorkers who depend on life-saving blood transfusions and assist patients in nearby hospitals. The yearly event is held through June 30.
