The Cedar Grove Fire Department honored firefighters and service members whose sacrifices are still remembered by the department and community on May 26th by holding their yearly Memorial Day service at the department's Firefighter Memorial.
According to officials, firefighters erected memorial flags in honor of fallen comrades, such as Ernest Neuschaefer Sr. of Company 1, the department's lone line-of-duty death in 1953, and Franklin Sekulic of Company 2, who died within the last year. Members also paid tribute to the 343 firefighters who died in the September 11 attacks.
After the event, firefighters went to Cedar Grove Parkway to lay a wreath in memory of department members who fought in World War II, including Company 1's Lloyd Smith.
