Ten fire departments from Cumberland County's Bayshore region took part in a regional water shuttle simulation in Mauricetown on June 6th, which included members of the Downe Township Fire/Rescue and Dive Team.
Firefighters observed a moment of silence in honor of the 82nd anniversary of D-Day prior to the start of the practice. Establishing a steady water supply for a simulated large-scale fire response was the main goal of the four-hour training session.
According to officials, while other agencies staffed the assault pumper, water tenders, and fill sites, Engine 39 was tasked with drafting operations at the former Mauricetown Bridge. Crews successfully met the training goal of sustaining a flow rate of 1,000 gallons per minute for 30 minutes using eight tenders and four portable water tanks.
A total of 54 volunteer firefighters participated in the exercise, which also utilized real-time apparatus tracking technology and aerial documentation provided by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department. Officials said the drill strengthened regional cooperation and preparedness for rural firefighting operations.
