Colchester, VT - Members of the Colchester Fire Department recently conducted wildland and brush fire training focused on water supply challenges and fire containment strategies in remote areas.
The exercise simulated a brush fire in a wooded location without direct access for fire engines. To address the scenario, firefighters established a portable pond as a static water source and used the department’s UTV to draft and transport water to forestry handlines operating at the fire scene.
Crews also practiced constructing fire lines, a key wildland firefighting technique that removes vegetation and other fuels to help slow or stop the spread of fire.
