Firefighters Train in Smoke House Before Responding to Vehicle Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Mays Landing, NJ - Members of Laureldale Fire Rescue recently participated in hands-on training at the Atlantic County Fire Academy’s smoke house during a regular drill night, followed by an active response to a vehicle fire.

The training placed firefighters in simulated zero-visibility conditions using dense artificial smoke and a reconfigurable interior layout designed to challenge search and rescue techniques. Crews located and removed rescue dummies while relying on communication, navigation skills, and teamwork.

Officials noted that the realistic environment helps improve decision-making and prepares firefighters for structure fire conditions they may face in real incidents.

Before arriving at the training facility, members also responded to an actual vehicle fire, reinforcing the importance of continuous skill development and real-world readiness.
