J’yair Shaw Signs Commitment to Continue Journey with JFRD

J'yair Shaw, a student at First Coast High School, was honored by the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department on May 8 for pursuing a career in firefighting. Since 2022, Shaw has taken part in the department's Explorer Program, where he has gained experience and mentored other young people who are interested in public service.


Shaw committed to enrolling in the JFRD Apprentice Program during a ceremony held at the school. Through the Fire Academy of the South at Florida State College at Jacksonville, the program will assist him in fulfilling the prerequisites for applying for a job with JFRD.


Shaw and the Class of 2026 received congratulations from department authorities on their accomplishments.
