Auburn, NY - Members of the Cayuga County Hazardous Materials Response Team conducted their monthly training, focusing on recent incidents and real-world operations.

The session began with a review of recent HazMat calls, allowing crews to discuss response actions, lessons learned, and ways to improve future operations.

Firefighters then took part in a hands-on scenario that started as a routine EMS call, requiring crews to recognize potential hazardous materials, establish command, perform rescues, and request additional resources. Teams worked to identify an unknown substance using multiple methods while utilizing wireless air monitoring to provide real-time data to command.

Following the entry phase, crews carried out technical decontamination procedures before concluding the exercise.
