WEST PAWLET, Vt. — May 19th — A busy "Training Tuesday" centered on pumping operations and dry hydrant testing around the district was attended by members of the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department. While examining the drafting processes and water supply operations utilized during rural fire incidents, firefighters from the department at 2806 VT Route 153 tested one of the district's thirteen dry hydrants. In places lacking municipal hydrant systems, dry hydrants offer access to ponds and other water sources.

Regular training, according to department officials, helps staff stay familiar with machinery, pumps, and water supply equipment prior to emergency situations. To ensure safe and effective fireground operations in rural communities, the National Fire Protection Association advises regular hydrant inspections and pump training.
