PAWLET, Vt. — May 18th — At the Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department's station on VT Route 133, Lieutenant Matthew Burzon and Firefighter Scott Wittman trained on Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator principles on Monday night. Driving emergency vehicles was not the only topic covered in the program. Pump operations, hydrant connections, drafting, equipment placement, radio communications, and safe vehicle handling during emergency responses were all covered by the members.

According to department officials, practical, one-on-one training enables firemen to properly handle equipment while assisting crews on the fireground. Maintaining preparedness and adhering to fire service safety regulations depend heavily on regular driver/operator training. According to the Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department, ongoing training improves operational abilities and guarantees that members are ready to respond efficiently when called into duty.
