On May 18th, firefighters, families and friends gathered at the Bergen County Public Safety Institute, in Mahwah, for the New Jersey & New York Volunteer Firemen's Association's annual memorial. Volunteer and career firefighters from Bergen County and Rockland County, N.Y., that have answered their last alarm in 2024, were recognized and remembered. Master of Ceremony John Malool stated that in 2024 there were no line of duty deaths. At the conclusion of the ceremony, all participants were given a red rose and they walked past the monument that lists those firefighters that gave their lives in the line of duty. Uniformed members offered a salute.
