While returning from another call along DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn, Fire Department of the City of New York paramedics Youssef Al Hammami and Ryan Kirby of Station 31 heard an explosion and rushed to a fire emergency at around 7 p.m. on May 10.

According to officials, the paramedics saw patrons leaving a restaurant while flames erupted from a doorway. While Paramedic Youssef Al Hammami got a fire extinguisher from the ambulance and assisted New York City Police Department officers in putting out the fire, Paramedic Ryan Kirby started evaluating people leaving the building right after.

Before firefighters could arrive, the responders were able to successfully evacuate everyone from the restaurant and put out the fire. Three NYPD policemen were also treated by the FDNY members for smoke inhalation at the scene.
