Fire Marshals Jesse Collado and Michael Negron of the City of New York Fire Department responded to a reported fire just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday after returning from a security detail related to the church fire in Astoria on April 23.
According to officials, the fire marshals arrived to discover substantial smoke coming from the second floor of a two-story private residence after identifying the site from a Queens Fire Dispatch message. Dispatchers and arriving units were promptly informed about the situation on the spot by the marshals.
Collado and Negron saw people trying to take a propane torch from the roof and flee the site during the incident. The fire marshals stepped in and held the people until the cops showed up. A single suspect was apprehended.
