RUTLAND, Vt. — May 7 — As spring weather increased river flow and water dangers throughout the area, members of the City of Rutland Fire Department Technical Rescue Team practiced swift water rescue. Self-rescue exercises, throwbag rescue procedures, and methods for negotiating obstructions like trees and storm debris in flowing water were all part of the training. In order to support emergency operations during floods, water rescues, and severe weather occurrences, the team has 11 qualified individuals who have received training in a variety of technical rescue disciplines, according to department authorities.

Due to snowmelt and shifting river conditions, departments all around Vermont frequently hold seasonal water rescue training in the spring. Additionally, fire officials advised locals to stay on designated routes when engaging in outdoor activities near rivers and streams, use life jackets, and keep away from swiftly moving water.
