PERKINSVILLE, VT. — April 29th — A department training session on dry hydrant testing and rural water supply operations was attended by 19 members of the West Weathersfield Fire Department. During the drill, personnel examined drafting processes and evaluated hydrant performance using Engines 1, 2, 4, and 7 as well as Tanker 1.

When municipal hydrant systems are scarce or nonexistent, dry hydrants are crucial to rural firefighting operations. In the event of mutual aid disasters, brush fires, and structure fires, departments can maintain reliable water access with the support of routine testing and inspections. According to department representatives, regular training sessions assist firefighters in enhancing their operational preparedness, familiarity with equipment, and coordination when responding to emergencies in the West Weathersfield region.
