About fifty Riverhead Fire Department employees took part in the yearly smokehouse SCBA interior firefighter qualifications and bailout recertification training on April 26.

According to officials, the practical training concentrated on preserving firefighter competence and safety while working in situations that pose an imminent threat to life and health. The exercises, which covered internal operations and emergency bailout procedures, were carried out in compliance with the yearly SCBA training requirements.

To improve familiarity and operational readiness, members also received training on the department's more recent equipment, such as the Ferrara Engine 6-2-14 and Brush Rapid Attack Truck 6-2-8.
