Bay Shore FESS Conducts Vehicle Extrication Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Bay Shore Fire Department Fire Emergency Service Squad's monthly training exercise was held at Station 1 on April 30.

According to officials, the drill started with a mannequin stuck between a car and a stationary object in a mock rescue. To safely remove the victim, firefighters employed a variety of rescue instruments and extrication tactics. Later, members removed car doors, moved the dashboard, and removed the roof using HURST rescue equipment.

Sunrise Highway and the Southern State Parkway are just two examples of the heavily frequented Bay Shore response area where Fire Emergency Service Squad operators are routinely trained for incidents, according to the department. Residents who were interested in helping were also urged by officials to find out more about joining the agency.
